If Apple’s AirPods are noisy in different ways, it can be very annoying. But there are several ways to fix this problem. Soon you will be able to listen to music, podcasts and the like again at a relaxed and balanced volume.
If the AirPods are differently loud, this can have various reasons
With the AirPods from Apple, you can listen to audio content from the iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. But it’s silly if the AirPods are different in volume. This can have several reasons.
- Dirt: A common and simple reason is that the AirPods are dirty. This can cause one pair of headphones to sound louder or quieter than the other. The solution: Carefully clean the AirPods with a cotton swab. While you’re at it, remove the silicone attachments, which you should also clean thoroughly.
- Missing balance: Another reason may be that the AirPods are not aligned or balanced with each other. In this case, you can manually compensate for the differences.
-
To do this, put the AirPods in your ear and connect them to the iPad or iPhone. Go to “Settings” and from there to “Accessibility”.
- In this menu item, select “Audio / Visual”. There you will find a slider under “Balance” that you can adjust as you wish.
Sometimes the only thing that helps is to reset the AirPods to factory settings
If the problem persists despite the two solutions described above, the reason may also lie in the firmware or hardware. Here, too, there are ways to fix the problem.
- Outdated firmware: The AirPods may not have the latest firmware. Unfortunately, updates are not always pushed in automatically. So you need to install the latest firmaware manually.
-
To do this, connect the AirPods in the case to the iPhone and open the “Settings” on the smartphone. There, tap on “General” à “Info” à “AirPods”. In this menu item you will see the current version under “Firmware” and can update it if necessary.
- Hardware problem: Another reason is a problem in the hardware. In this case, the only thing that will help is a factory reset. To do this, you must first disconnect the AirPods from the iPhone or iPad. To do this, go to “Bluetooth” in “Settings” and then click on the blue small “i” next to the name of the AirPods.
- Further down you will find the indication “Ignore this device”. Confirm this. Then place the AirPods in the charging case. Press the button on the back of the case for at least 15 seconds.
- When a small LED flashes, you can let go. The headphones are now reset and you can reconnect the AirPods to the device of your choice.
