What exactly GiroPay is, you should know if you want to pay with this payment method when shopping online.
GiroPay – what is it?
Nowadays you can pay in almost all large and also many small online stores not only with PayPal, but also with GiroPay. You can also use GiroPay to prove your identity online, verify your age and pay invoices you have received.
- GiroPay works in a similar way to the SofortÜberweisung service. GiroPay is a joint digital payment procedure of the German banks and savings banks.
- If you are a customer of one of the supporting banks, you can select GiroPay as your payment method. By entering your account details, payment is made simply, quickly and, above all, securely for you.
How the payment method works
If your online store supports GiroPay as a payment method, you can shop securely:
- Add all products to the shopping cart and select “GiroPay” as the payment method:
- You will now be redirected to the GiroPay website via a secure connection. If you enter your bank sort code there, the service will automatically determine the corresponding bank.
- If you don’t know whether your bank supports GiroPay, you can simply try it out. If your bank sort code is rejected, you will have to use a different payment method.
- After entering your bank sort code, you will be asked for your access to online banking. Enter your user name and password and request a TAN.
- By entering the TAN, the amount of the invoice is automatically transferred from your account to the online store.
- You can only pay conveniently in online stores by logging into your online banking account. The amount of the invoice and the recipient are already specified by the store. By paying via GiroPay, the merchant knows that you have paid immediately and can send the goods directly
