Since April 2018, Sky Go can also be used abroad in Europe. In this practical tip, you can find out all the information you need.
Using Sky Go abroad
Sky Go could not be used abroad from a legal point of view before April 2018. An EU regulation has since abolished geo-blocking across Europe.
- Since 1 April 2018, you can receive Sky Go without additional costs in other EU countries. You can access the content via Sky Go’s own app. There are no restrictions on the programmes. You can stream series, films and sporting events via the app as usual.
- The regulation only applies to temporary stays abroad for a few weeks. In the case of a permanent move to another EU country, the Sky Go offer from Germany cannot be used.
- Sky Go may check whether you have a permanent residence in Germany for this purpose.
- Switzerland is not part of the EU, so the regulation does not apply here. However, Swiss viewers also have access to Sky Go via Teleclub Switzerland.
How to use Sky Go in non-EU countries
You can use Sky Go in non-EU countries in a roundabout way, although this is against Sky’s terms and conditions. If unlawful use is discovered, your Sky account may be suspended. Take the following steps at your own risk.
- If, despite all the risks, you would like to use Sky Go in non-EU countries, you must use a VPN service. You can use ExpressVPN or NordVPN for this purpose, for example.
- For the iPad, iPhone or your Android smartphone, you can also reach for the app from hide.me.
- It is important that you choose a server in Germany or from other EU countries, otherwise you will not get access.
