If your router from TP Link no longer works, this can be due to both the router itself and your Internet provider. In this practical tip, we show you how to identify and solve the problem.
TP-Link Router: Login no longer works
If you have problems with the login, a reboot and the default password can help:
- First, disconnect your router completely from the power supply. Wait a few seconds and then reconnect the router. This will clear any small errors in the cache.
- Now try to access the user interface of your router. To do this, you need the IP address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254. Select “admin” as the user name and password, provided you have not changed the login data.
- If you cannot connect to the router, connect the machine to your computer using a LAN cable. A WLAN connection is often quite unreliable when problems occur.
TP link: Provider down instead of router problem
If there are problems with the Internet, this does not necessarily have to be due to your router. Often there is also a problem with your Internet provider.
- If this is the case, there is usually not much you can do and you have to wait out the problem. Usually, the internet will work again on its own after a few minutes to hours.
- In the following practical tips, we show you how to check for problems with your Internet provider and how to deal with them: Telekom, Kabel Deutschland, 1&1, Unitymedia, Kabel BW.
TP link: Reset router to factory settings
If the problem is not with your Internet provider, a simple reset will help in most cases. This resets all the settings on your router. Then you have to reconfigure the router. This only takes a few minutes. This is how it works:
- On the back of the router you will find a small button labelled “Reset”. If the button is in a hole, you will need a paper clip to press it.
- Press the reset button for about three seconds until lights on the router start flashing.
- Release the button and wait a few minutes for the router to reset itself. You can then connect the unit to your computer via LAN cable and set it up using the IP address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254. Select “admin” as the user name and password.
