Tor Browser does not start – what to do?
If the Tor Browser does not start, this can have various causes. You can try different things to establish a connection.
- You can try to start Tor Browser as an admin. To do this, right-click on the shortcut and select “Run as administrator”
- Also make sure that you have installed the latest version of the Tor Browser.
- We generally recommend that you use the Tor Browser package, as all the data is available here.
- If Tor Browser is already installed on your PC, uninstall it and then manually remove all remaining files and folders. Then install the Tor Browser package and try again. The error should now not occur again.
- It is also possible that the firewall or an antivirus program is blocking the start of Tor. You should therefore deactivate these services as a test. If you can then start the browser without any problems, we will show you how to unblock Tor in the firewall and in your antivirus program
Tor Browser needs an active Internet connection and a correctly set system clock
If you have installed the Tor Browser on your PC or laptop, Tor should work after a restart.
- If this is not the case, it is advisable to check your own Internet connection. If your device indicates that you are “Offline”, the Tor Browser cannot be started either.
- In addition, the computer’s system clock should be set correctly. If this is not the case, Tor will not be able to connect to your device.
- In addition, no other Tor Browser or instance of Tor should be running on your PC or laptop. To make sure that Tor is not running, you can restart the PC or laptop. The browser will then be automatically closed and terminated
