Threads app: what is it exactly?

- Threads is a text-based social media platform that is closely linked to Instagram. Users log in via their Instagram account and can write posts that are public or visible only to followers. The app is reminiscent of platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and enables fast, direct communication in a clear feed.
- Users sign up and create a profile automatically via their existing Instagram account. Profile picture, bio and followers can be adopted, making it particularly easy to get started. There is no link to other platforms such as Facebook or WhatsApp.
- Unlike messaging services, Threads is not a private communication platform. Posts are publicly visible depending on the privacy setting. However, the app allows you to restrict who can reply to posts.
