With Google AI, the search engine giant has activated a new function that is based on artificial intelligence – but you can switch it off with just a few clicks
How to switch off Google AI
Google AI is set to upgrade the most frequently used search engine thanks to AI. Google initially deployed its AI assistant on google.com in the USA. The search engine giant then activated this function for users in other countries. If you are not enthusiastic about the technology and want to switch Google AI off again, you can do so with just a few mouse clicks.
- Start a Google search first. As soon as results are displayed, you will see that the “All” option is activated below the search field.
- In this bar, you will find the option to select “More” on the far right. Once you have clicked on the button, a new menu will open. There you can select “Web”
- Google will now show you the classic list of search results, as was the standard many years ago. No additional knowledge panels appear, such as weather information and Wikipedia excerpts.
- However, this is a temporary setting. The next time you search, you will have to select it again manually.
Use Google permanently without AI function
You can permanently disable Google AI with a workaround. To do this, you need to open your browser settings. A default search engine is always stored there. This is always used if you only enter your search terms in the address bar and do not start the search directly via google.com.
- To do this, you must manually add a new search engine
- Enter the following link as the root URL: “https://www.google.de//search?udm=14&q=”
- The search terms are then automatically appended to the URL after the equal sign.
- The “Web” option is then set by default for search queries.
This is what’s behind Google AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of everyday life for many internet users. You don’t even need to open special applications such as ChatGPT.
- Google AI is an addition to the so-called Knowledge Panels. They have been compiling information on specific search queries for several years. This information is displayed directly below the search field in front of the generic search results. Google calls the info box “AI Overview.”
- Google AI is a short summary of data from several sources. The user then no longer needs to visit the websites individually to get an overview of the information.
- The AI function is not displayed with every search query, but is played when the algorithm assumes that it is particularly helpful for the user.
