Stream Amazon Prime videos in 4k – how it works

With Amazon Prime, you can enjoy series streams in UHD, i.e. 4K Ultra HD with a resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. We reveal how it works

Stream movies and series from Amazon Prime in 4k

Amazon streams a good 150 titles in UHD or 4k. However, your devices must have a lot to offer for these high-resolution videos:

  • You need a 4K-capable TV or a combination of a 4K-capable graphics card and monitor. UHD-capable televisions have been available since 2014, for example from LG, Samsung, Sony and VIZIO.
  • The entire chain from the receiver to the picture and sound output devices must always have an HDMI connection that supports HDCP 2.2.
  • The XBox One S is also suitable as a UHD receiver for Amazon Prime Videos.
  • In order to receive the streams in full 4k quality, you also need an internet connection with at least 15 MBit/s. Netflix and YouTube even recommend 20 MBit/s or more.
  • Amazon itself suggests the second-generation Amazon Fire TV for 4K streaming. The cheaper Fire TV stick is suitable for HD videos with 1080p, but not for UHD.
  • With Amazon, you may have to restart the stream several times for it to run in 4k quality. This is especially true for 15 MBit/s connections.
  • All titles are listed in the Ultra HD category, which you can find on the Prime Video home page.
  • These are mainly original versions of some series, such as “Alpha House”, “Bosch”, “Hand of God”, “Mozart in the Jungle”, “Red Oaks” and “Transparent”. However, if demand increases, the content will certainly grow
  • In German, you will find Sony Pictures classics in particular, such as “Godzilla”, “Groundhog Day”, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “The Da Vinci Code – Sacrilege”.
