If your smart TV can’t connect to the internet, it’s very annoying. Perhaps a few tips will help you fix the problem.
No internet connection on your smart TV – what you can do
An internet connection is essential to fully use a smart TV. But what can you do if the device does not connect?
- Make sure you connect the smart TV to the right network and check that the network key has been entered correctly.
- Restart your router. This will solve possible problems.
- Check whether the Smart TV is up to date. A software update can often fix problems.
- Make sure that the router is not too far away from the Smart TV. The Wi-Fi signal may not be strong enough.
- Decide on a connection. You cannot use Wi-Fi and LAN at the same time. This will cause connectivity issues.
- You can try changing the wireless channel of your router. Some smart TVs only search for certain channels.
- Check if a firmware update is available for your router. If so, install it.
- Test another router if you have one available. If the smart TV can connect, the first router may be defective.
- If none of this helps, contact your internet service provider or TV manufacturer for further assistance. It is also possible that the smart TV is defective. If the device is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer to arrange for a repair
How to use your smart TV without the internet
If your smart TV is temporarily not connected to the internet, you don’t necessarily have to do without it.
- You can set up a hotspot using other devices and try to connect your smart TV to it. Keep an eye on your mobile data when doing so, for example if you are using your smartphone’s data volume.
- If you have a connected console, check whether it is connected to the internet. Many streaming services also offer apps for Playstation or Xbox.
- If there is an internet connection via this route, you can use the regular antenna or cable connections. You can watch live TV this way, but you cannot use any on-demand features.
