PayPal returns: How to get your money back
When shopping online, you have the option of getting a refund for the cost of returning a return – as long as you paid the purchase price in full with PayPal.
- However, you must observe and comply with the stated deadline of the respective retailer. In addition, the trader must offer to take back the item in the first place. If this is free of charge anyway, you will of course not be reimbursed by PayPal.
- Also, this service can only be used if you have chosen standard shipping. Express shipping is not refundable.
- To use the returns service, you must have a German account that is not blocked. In addition, you must first activate the service at PayPal.
- If you have returned the goods, you can recover the costs for the return from PayPal within 30 days. To do this, you simply have to click on “Recover return costs “

How to reclaim return costs with PayPal
You can only claim the costs after you have returned the purchased item.
- If you would like PayPal to reimburse you for the cost of the return, log in to PayPal with your access data and select the “Activities” section.
- Here you click on the purchased item that you have returned. You will see the item “Request refund of return shipping costs” in the purchase summary. Click on the link.
- On the next page, you will need to indicate what type of item you have returned and the reason for the return. You will also need to provide other information, such as the cost of the return and the date you shipped. You must also submit the receipts for the return.
- Then click on “Send” to submit the request for payment of the return costs.
Further information about PayPal returns
PayPal refunds up to 25 euros per return. You can also use the service for returns abroad.
- However, the service is limited. You can claim a maximum of twelve refunds per year for returns.
- You cannot claim a refund for all products. For example, intangible items such as downloads, vouchers or or other digital goods are excluded from the offer, as are services.
- For these things, shipping costs are usually not incurred at the time of purchase either.
