Opening hours at Christmas: Here’s what to look out for

by Johannes

This year, Christmas Eve falls on a Friday. Whether this means that all shops are open on Christmas Eve, as on every other working day, is clarified here. You can find an overview of all opening hours in this practical tip.

The Christmas opening hours at a glance

  • Most shops are open until 2 pm. So not only discounters and supermarkets are open on Christmas Eve, but also other shops.
  • There are exceptions, however: Supermarkets and shops that are in the immediate vicinity of railway stations, ferry terminals or airports can stay open until 5 p.m.
  • Pharmacies and petrol stations are open until 0am, so last-minute shopping is possible here around the clock.
  • However, each operator and shopkeeper here is free to decide for themselves when and for how long they are open. Look out for notices in shop windows or on the relevant websites.
