You can watch numerous films for free on YouTube, but not all content on the platform is legal
It is legal to watch complete films on YouTube
On YouTube you will not only find short clips and longer videos that you can stream, but there are also entire films available for free on the platform. If you want to watch these, you don’t need to worry about infringing any rights.
- As a rule, films uploaded in full to YouTube are legal because consent has been granted by the author. If someone uploads a film without this consent or, for example, films a movie in its entirety in the cinema and posts it online, this is punishable by law. However, only the person who uploads the film is at risk, not you as the viewer.
- When you watch a movie on YouTube, you are on the safe side legally: Simply watching movies on YouTube is legal. Because on a reputable website you can assume that you will not see any illegal content. And you have no chance of tracing whether the copyright has been observed.
- YouTube itself takes action against illegal content and removes it from the platform if it is reported by users or authors. Accounts that have uploaded films may also be blocked.
- You do not need to worry about receiving a warning for illegally streaming films, as was the case with websites such as Kinox.to or Movie4k.to in the past.
Buy movies on YouTube
YouTube also offers the purchase of films. This is, of course, a completely legal offer.
- Open the YouTube website and switch to the “Movies & TV” category in the menu on the left.
- Here you will now find many current and older movies. You can either rent or buy the films. Many films are available for as little as 2.99 euros, while some cost a hefty 9.99 euros.
- When you select a movie, the trailer starts immediately. If you like the trailer, you can buy or rent the movie.
- If you buy the movie, you can watch it an unlimited number of times. If you rent the movie, you have 30 days to watch it. If you have already started the movie, you only have 48 hours left to watch it to the end.
- Payment is made via the Google Account. Here you can select either PayPal or a credit card as your payment method.
