Is the clock set forward or back? This trick will help you remember - Practical Tips

Is the clock set forward or back? This trick will help you remember

by Johannes

Is the clock set forward or back? The time change is always a tiresome problem, as hardly anyone can remember whether the clock has to be set one hour forward or one hour back. We’ll tell you a few little tricks to help you remember the time change in the future.

Forwards or backwards? With this trick you can master the time change without any problems

Forwards or backwards, a question that most of us ask ourselves at least twice a year. In any case, it is certain that the clocks are changed by one hour in spring and one hour in autumn. With the following little mnemonic, you will always know exactly in which direction you have to turn the hands.

  • With the help of the little number sequence 2-3-2, it is quite easy to always turn the hand in the right direction in future.
  • In spring, the clock is set forward from two to three o’clock.
  • In winter, the hand is then turned back from three to two.

Daylight saving time – how to change the clock

At the start of daylight saving time, clocks are set forward one hour so that it stays light for an hour longer in the evening. The idea behind this was that it would reduce electricity consumption.

  • The changeover from winter time to summer time always takes place on the last Sunday in March.
  • At 2 a.m. sharp in the early morning, the timepieces are set forward to 3 a.m.
  • As a mnemonic, you can remember that with the onset of spring, everyone flocks outside again. The time of the beer gardens and the festivals begins, and the clock also leaps forward.
  • If you have a garden, get your bearings by moving the garden furniture and cold-sensitive plants back into the garden in the spring. So it goes forward and so set the clock forward one hour.

Winter time – this is how the clocks are set

The changeover from summer time to winter time, which is actually standard time, always takes place on the last Sunday in October. With winter time, the hour “stolen” in the spring is brought back.

  • To get back the missing time, the clocks are turned back in the early morning, from 3 to 2 o’clock.
  • You can also notice it by the fact that in winter you put back everything that you brought outside in spring. So it goes back an hour again.
  • The beer gardens have closed and you now have an extra hour to “hibernate”.
