Instagram: Share a reel – this is how it works

On Instagram, you can share your own or other people’s reels with friends or post them in your Story in just a few steps.

How to share reels from Instagram

If you’ve found an interesting or funny reel that you want to send, you can simply use the share function on Instagram. This works with your own reel as well as with those from other accounts.

• Go to the reel in your feed and tap the paper aeroplane icon that appears right next to the heart and speech bubble.
• Now you can either send the reel directly to a friend on Instagram – the names will appear directly to you and are selectable by tick.
• Or you can choose to post the reel in your own story. To do this, tap on the plus symbol “Post in Story” at the bottom of the page.
• There is also the possibility to share the reel via other ways: Go to the “Share” button, you can either copy the URL to the clipboard or share the short video via WhatsApp, mail or another platform.
• Good to know: If sharing a reel does not work, it probably comes from a private account that you follow. In this case, content cannot be sent, or only friends on Instagram who also follow the account can receive the reel via Direct Message.
