If you no longer want to be an active member of the largest social network, you can deactivate your Facebook account. This can be done with just a few clicks.
How to deactivate your Facebook account
If you are not sure whether you will want to use Facebook again in the near future, you can initially just deactivate your profile instead of deleting it completely. Your data will remain stored, but cannot be viewed by anyone.
- Log in to your Facebook account and click on your Facebook profile picture at the top right of the screen. Then click on “Settings and Privacy” and then on “Settings”.
- At the top left of the settings menus, you will see the “Account Summary”. There you have the option to disable the account summary. If the “Account Summary” is in the lower left corner of the “Settings” menu, deactivate the account via the Facebook settings.
Permanently delete Facebook account
If you want to permanently delete your Facebook account, you can make the appropriate settings.
- Click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the Facebook page. Then select “Settings and Privacy” and go to “Settings”.
- Now click on “Account Summary” in the top left corner and then on “Account Settings” and then on ‘Personal Information’.
- The next step is to click on ‘Account Ownership and Settings’ and then on ‘Deactivate or Delete’. Now you just need to select the Facebook account or profile that you want to delete. Click on ‘Delete Account’. Then click on ‘Next’ and confirm.
