Hotmail: Forgotten your password – what to do?

If you’ve forgotten your password for your Hotmail account, there’s no need to panic. We’ll show you how to access your account again.

Forgot your Hotmail password – what you need to do

Microsoft has since renamed its Hotmail email service to Outlook.com. However, your old Hotmail account can still be used without any problems

Go to the Hotmail website in your browser. Since you will be automatically redirected to https://outlook.live.com, you can also open the page directly at this address.

• Click on Log in in the top bar. Now enter your login name. This can be your e-mail address, your telephone number or Skype number. Confirm with Next.

• Click on the link Forgot your password? You now have several options to recover your password.

• If you have set up an authenticator app for your user account in the past, you can now confirm your identity by entering a code created by the app. Then assign a new password for your user account.

• Without the app, you can have a confirmation code sent to a stored e-mail address. To do this, select a displayed address to which you have access and click Next. Now enter your complete e-mail address and confirm it with Retrieve code.

• If you have a mobile phone number stored in your user account, you can also obtain the code this way. Click on Show more verification methods and select your mobile phone number.

• You will now receive a message at the address or phone number you entered. This contains a code that you can use to identify yourself in the next step of the registration process. Enter the code in the field provided and click Next. You can now set a new password for the account.
