Importing bookmarks in Chrome takes just a few clicks. This way, you can keep your favorite websites even if you switch browsers.
Importing Chrome bookmarks: How direct import works
If you want to switch from another browser to Google Chrome, it only takes a few steps. This is how you quickly and easily transfer your bookmarks from your browser to the Google browser.
- To do this, open the browser and click on the three-dot icon in the top right.
- Click on the “Bookmarks and lists” option and select the “Import bookmarks and settings” option.
- Google Chrome automatically recognizes the browsers installed on your device and offers the option to import the data from them directly. This function is available for common browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Safari. If your browser appears in the list, select it.
- If your browser is not on the list, you can instead import your bookmarks from a file. The next chapter explains how to do this.
- Select the data you want to import from your browser. Make sure the “Bookmarks/Favorites” option is checked.
- Click “Import” to complete the process.
Import bookmarks from a file: How to proceed
If Google Chrome does not support direct importing in your browser, you can import the bookmarks manually.
- To do this, you have to export the bookmarks in your previous browser as an HTML file. The exact procedure for doing this varies depending on which browser you are using. However, you can often find the corresponding option via the menu and the item “Bookmarks”.
- Once you have saved the HTML file on your PC, open Chrome. Click again on the menu in the top right and select “Bookmarks and Lists” and then “Import Bookmarks and Settings”.
- Select “Bookmark HTML file” from the drop-down menu and then click “Choose File”.
- Now navigate to the directory in which your HTML file is located and select it.
- Confirm by clicking on “Import”.
