If you want to disable tracking in Google Chrome, you should ideally use a different browser. That’s because Google’s browser collects a lot of user data by default.
Disable tracking in Google Chrome: Use a different browser
Google Chrome is the most popular browser worldwide. The browser scores with a high speed because many websites are optimized for Chrome. However, Chrome collects your surfing data and uses it to display personalized Google advertising. The most effective way to stop this spying is therefore to use a different browser.
- Instead of Chrome, you can use the “SRWare Iron” browser, for example. Like the Google model, this browser is based on the Chromium project.
- SRWare Iron is therefore identical to Google Chrome in terms of appearance and operation. In addition, the browser works just as fast as Chrome.
- The developers of “SRWare Iron” have thrown out all of Google’s espionage features. Furthermore, the browser has a built-in ad blocker that blocks banner ads and pop-ups.
- If you are sure you don’t want to use any Google services anymore, you can also use the “Ungoogled Chromium” browser as an alternative.
- This browser is just as fast as the original, but all Google web services have been removed. However, this also means that you cannot log in to the browser with your Google account. Furthermore, it is not possible to install Chrome extensions from the Chrome Web Store.
Alternative: Make adjustments in Chrome
The above-mentioned browsers offer you a higher level of data protection, but they are not without drawbacks. Since the programs are developed by small development teams, security updates may be delayed. Alternatively, you can make adjustments in Chrome to at least restrict tracking.
- This is how you can disable the function for displaying personalized advertising in your browser. This is possible via the browser settings, which you can access via the menu at the top right.
- Click on the “Privacy and Security” tab and select “Privacy for Ads”. Here you should disable all three menu items.
- You can also block tracking cookies in Chrome. This is also possible in the “Privacy and Security” tab. Click on “Third-party cookies” and select “Block third-party cookies”.
- Incognito mode in Chrome is not a useful measure for increasing anonymity. Although your browser history and cookies from websites are not stored on your device, this does not prevent Google from tracking you.
