Screen ghosting occurs when movements do not update as quickly. You can try different approaches to solve the problem
Ghosting on the screen: Elimination in four steps
The term “ghosting” in the context of computers is used to describe a phenomenon where movement hangs on a screen. This causes the following images to leave shadows or “ghost images” for a short time. Particularly fast image changes or rapid movements, as occur in video games, can cause this effect. How to get rid of the ghosting effect:
- Open monitor settings: You can only change the response time via the menu on your monitor, not in the operating system. Press the button on the monitor to access the menu
- Activate overdrive: Switch on the overdrive function according to your monitor manufacturer. If you have an Acer monitor, search for “OD” and set it to “Normal” or “Extreme” as required.
- Check drivers and cables: Update your drivers to fix any potential issues. Replace your HDMI or DisplayPort cable to ensure that this is not the cause of the ghosting.
- Check jammer Disable certain image enhancement technologies in the OSD that could exacerbate ghosting.
Wide approaches to fix screen ghosting
If the annoying ghosting persists, your monitor may be defective. In this case, a repair could be considered, especially if it is still under warranty. However, also try these solutions:
- Optimize response time: Check that the response time in your monitor’s settings is set to the lowest level. This reduces motion blur.
- Update graphics drivers: Update your graphics drivers to the latest version to resolve potential performance issues.
- Graphics card performance: A more powerful graphics card can help increase frame rates in games or applications, which in turn can reduce the likelihood of ghosting.
- Adjust the refresh rate: Check the refresh rate of your monitor. A higher frequency can improve the picture quality and reduce ghosting.
- Replace the cable: Replace the HDMI or DisplayPort cable with a high-quality cable to solve possible transmission problems.
- Change monitor: A monitor with low input lag responds faster to inputs, which can minimize ghosting.
- Check game settings: Experiment with the graphics settings in your games to see if certain settings affect ghosting.
- Using G-Sync and FreeSync: If your monitor supports these functions, you can switch on G-Sync (for Nvidia) or FreeSync (for AMD) to synchronize the refresh rate with your graphics card.
