Find out your own tax number: Ask the tax office
A tax number is issued by the respective tax office and can change when you move house, as your current tax office will then no longer be responsible. The tax number is 13 digits long, with the first 4 digits representing the Federal Tax Office. The tax number can be found easily in a variety of ways. For example, you can ask for the number directly from your competent tax office:
- Before the tax office employee can give you information about your tax number, you usually have to give your full name, address and sometimes your date of birth.
- The employee will then clarify further questions with you and give you information about your tax number.
Another option: look up documents
An equally easy way is to read the tax number on your documents. To find the number here as quickly as possible, note the following:
- Your tax number is written on every letter you receive from the tax office. Provided you have one. If you do not have one, you should apply for a tax number from the tax office.
