Facebook doesn’t offer the option to download your chat history. But with a few little tricks, you can still have a copy of your chat history on your computer.
How to save Facebook chat history using copy and paste
If you want to save a chat from Facebook, it’s not that easy, because the social network itself doesn’t offer the option to do so in the browser. But with the shortcuts copy and paste it works in a roundabout way.
- Mark the chat with the mouse and then copy it with a right click (shortcut: Ctrl+C).
- Then insert the history into a text document in Word or OpenOffice (shortcut: Ctrl+V).
Save chat history as screenshot
For shorter chat histories, a screenshot is also a good way to save it on your PC. The advantage: the original chat design is retained. Disadvantage: text modules cannot be copied.
- You can copy the screenshot to the clipboard by pressing the [Print Screen] key.
- Then insert the screenshot into Word, OpenOffice or image editing programs like Paint and save it.
- Alternatively, use the Snipping tool to save your Facebook chat with a screenshot.
