Facebook: Change email address

If you have changed your email address, you can also change it on Facebook. However, this is only possible indirectly.

Change email address on Facebook

You cannot change your email address on Facebook directly. Instead, you first add another address to your account. You can then delete the old address:

• Open the facebook.com website in your browser and log in with the email address/phone number you currently use and your password.

• Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner. Then select Settings and privacy ☻ Settings.

• Select Personal Information ☻ Personal Information from the left menu bar. Tip: This link will take you directly to the page.

• Click on Contact Information and then on Add New Contact Info ☻ Add Email Address.

• Enter your new email address in the field provided. If you have multiple accounts on your Facebook account (such as Facebook and Instagram), select the accounts for the new email address. Then click Next.

• You must now confirm your identity. Depending on your security settings, this may be done by means of a code that you receive at your previous e-mail address. Enter the code in the field displayed and confirm by clicking Next.

• Next, you will receive a confirmation code at the newly provided address. You must now enter this code in the field. Click Continue to add the address to your account.

• If you want, you can now remove your old email address from your contact information. Click on the address and select Delete Email Address. Click Delete and confirm your identity if necessary.

Change your email address in the Facebook app

The procedure is similar in the Facebook app on your smartphone:

• Open the Facebook app on your smartphone or tablet. If necessary, log in with your access data.

• Tap the hamburger icon to open the Facebook app menu. This is located at the top right or bottom right of the screen, depending on your device’s operating system.

• Tap Settings and privacy at the very bottom ☻ Settings.

• Select Personal ☻ Personal Information, then select Contact Information.

• Tap Add New Contact Info ☻ Add Email Address and enter a new email address. Select the accounts (if any) and tap Next.

• Enter the code that Facebook sent to your email address. Confirm by tapping Next.

• If you no longer use your old address, you can now tap it in the overview and then select Delete email address.
