If your EC card has expired, your bank will send you a new card before the expiry date. To find out what you can do if the card does not arrive, read our practical tip.
EC card expired – how to get a new card
As a rule, a new EC card is sent automatically at least 4 weeks before it expires. If the card does not arrive, you can do the following:
- First of all, contact your bank and ask if or when the card was sent.
- Report the card as missing to your bank. You will receive a new EC card including a new PIN number at short notice. The card and PIN number will be sent in two separate letters.
- Good to know: Keep an eye on the expiry date of your card. For example, if you are on holiday when the card expires, it will be automatically blocked and you will not be able to pay or withdraw money with it. Plan ahead and order a new EC card from the bank in good time if necessary. However, some banks may charge fees for this. It’s best to ask your bank advisor about this.
