Instructions: Delete your Facebook account permanently

If you want to delete your Facebook account completely, you can search for a long time in the settings. You can only reach the right option via this Facebook link.

• You will now be offered to temporarily deactivate Facebook. You should select this if you want to continue using Facebook Messenger.
• Click the “Delete account” button at the bottom of the page to delete your entire Facebook account and all of your saved data.
• Follow the further instructions and confirm the process with your password. You will then be logged out.
• After the deadline, it can take up to 90 days before all data is actually removed.

Android & iOS: Permanently delete FB on mobile phone

Alternatively to the website version, you can also delete your own Facebook account within the app on your iPhone or smartphone. Here the option is not quite so hidden.

• Start the Facebook app and tap the menu button in the top right corner.
• Tap on the “Settings and Privacy” category at the bottom and select the “Settings” there.
• In the “Your Facebook Information” section, find the “Account Ownership and Control” category.
• Under “Deactivation and deletion”, you can deactivate your “account” to remove all data.

Temporarily deactivate your Facebook account instead of deleting it – here’s how

If you just want to put your account on hold for a while, you can deactivate it in the “Settings”. This will make your profile and all data left behind on Facebook invisible. You can reactivate your account at any time by logging in again.

• Open the Facebook website and log in to your account.
• Click on the small arrow in the top right corner and select “Settings”.
• Select the category “Your Facebook information” in the navigation bar on the left.
• There you will find the menu item “Deactivation and deletion”. If you click on “View” here, you will find the option “Deactivate account” under this item.
• Tick this option and click on “Continue and deactivate account”.
• Your data will now be hidden on Facebook. Reactivation is possible at any time by simply logging in again with your access data.
