Deinfluencing: meaning of the term simply explained

by Mike

Most people have heard the term “influencer”, but what the meaning of “deinfluencing” is, only a few know. Deinfluencing is trending on many social platforms right now and is a term you should definitely be aware of

This is what the term Deinfluencing means

Those who are regularly active on social networks will have stumbled across the term “deinfluencing” more and more lately. There is a new trend behind this word.

  • The term “Deinfluencing” is made up of the words “De” and “Influencing”.
  • The syllable “De” comes from Latin and roughly translates to “away from something”.
  • “Influencing” is English and means to influence. Especially in social media, many influencers are active who want to convince people of a trend or product and thus influence them.
  • Influencers now do the exact opposite. They take popular and often expensive products and critically evaluate them. In other words, they want to move away from an opinion in favour of the manufacturers and towards a neutral evaluation.
  • The special thing about deinfluencing is that it is usually closer to reality than traditional product placements. This is because influencers are often paid by manufacturers for their opinions and are therefore not necessarily always objective.
