If you no longer need the enhanced privacy of your VPN connection, you can deactivate VPN very easily. We will show you how to do this in this practical tip.
Disable VPN on Windows 10 and macOS
If you no longer use your VPN connection, you can very easily terminate it on your computer.
- Windows 10: In Windows 10, the easiest way is via the Internet access icon at the bottom right of the taskbar.
- All available Internet connections are displayed here. If VPN is active, click on “Disconnect” and select another internet connection.
- macOS: If you are working with macOS, open the System Preferences, which can be found in the top left-hand corner under the Apple icon.
- In the system settings, select “Network”. Your VPN connection is displayed here. Click on “Disconnect”.
DisableVPN in iOS and Android
You can also use mobile devices to be on the virtual private network.
- iOS: To end a VPN in iOS, start the “Settings”. Look for the VPN function here. In iOS 14, for example, you will find “VPN” under the item “General”.
- Select your VPN here and turn it off.
- Android: If you use VPN on an Android smartphone, start the “Settings”.
- Tap on the menu item “Wireless and networks” and then on “More”. The sub-item “VPN” should be displayed here and you can disconnect the connection.
