You can remove a browser hijacker in Chrome in just a few steps. A hijacker is a malicious program that interferes with browser settings.
Remove browser hijacker in Chrome: Here’s how
You are suddenly redirected to other websites, a different search engine is displayed as default or there are constantly annoying pop-ups. Then you are the victim of a browser hijacker. In Google Chrome, however, you can get rid of it relatively quickly.
- First, you should remove all unknown add-ons from the browser. To do this, open the menu by clicking on the three dots in the top right and select “Extensions” and “Manage extensions”.
- Delete all browser extensions you don’t recognize by clicking the “Remove” button.
- If the home page in Chrome has changed, open the browser settings by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner.
- Click on the “On Start-up” tab and delete all suspicious entries under “Open a specific page or pages”.
- You may also need to customize the page that opens when you open a new tab. To do this, go to the “Appearance” tab.
- The “Show Home button” option should be set to “New Tab” page.
- To customize the default search engine, click on “Search engine” on the left.
- Then click on “Change” and select the desired search engine. Confirm by clicking on “Set as default”.
- If you want to delete unwanted search engines, click on “Manage search engines and website search”.
- Delete the corresponding search engines here by clicking on the three dots to the right of them and selecting “Delete”.
Alternative: Reset Chrome to default settings
If you find manually resetting the settings too time-consuming, you can also reset Google Chrome to default settings with a single click.
- To do this, open the Chrome settings by clicking on the three dots in the top right.
- Click on the “Reset settings” tab.
- Select “Reset settings to original defaults”.
- Confirm by clicking on “Reset settings”.
