Calculate square meters correctly – how it works

by Pramith

If you want to find out the size of your home or other things, you need to calculate the area in square meters. We’ll show you how to do it

How to calculate square meters correctly

You don’t need much to calculate square meters. A folding rule and a calculator are all you need.

  • First measure the desired area. To calculate the square meters of a room, measure the length and then the width.
  • If the room is 4.5 meters wide and 10 meters long, all you have to do is multiply the two figures together. The result is 4.5 x 10 = 45 square meters.
  • If the area is not completely rectangular, for example because a piece of wall protrudes into the room, you need to use a little trick. Divide the room into rectangular parts and calculate the square meters separately.
