Application: The right font size - Practical Tips

Application: The right font size

by Flo

Everything should really be right in an application. Besides content and structure, the font size is also important. In this article we tell you which size you should use for your cover letter and CV.

Successful application: The right font size

When applying for a job, you don’t just score points with your qualifications and your writing style: Formalities such as font size, font type and structure also play an important role.

  • When it comes to font size, you should not experiment much, but stick to the standard size of 12. This is perfect for continuous text, as it is easy to read, but not too large.
  • If you want to make your subheadings or, for example, the date of your cover letter stand out a little, you can make the individual lines in font size 14.
  • For the large main headings, for example above your CV, font size 16 is also a good choice.
  • The easiest way to remember this rule is to use the triple chain 12 – 14 – 16. Alternatively, you can go down one font size each, so use 11 – 13 – 15.
  • But in any case, make sure that your application is consistent and has a coherent overall look. No line should appear excessively large or small.
