All the maps in League of Legends - Practical Tips

All the maps in League of Legends

by Flo

League of Legends offers a variety of maps that enrich the gaming experience. The main maps, alternative maps and special modes provide plenty of variety.

The main maps of League of Legends

The main cards in League of Legends are those that are played most often and are known for the standard mode, the so-called “Summoner’s Rift”.

  • Summoner’s Rift: The most famous and most played map in League of Legends is the Summoner’s Rift. This classic MOBA map is symmetrical and divided into three lanes: top, mid and bot. In addition, there is the jungle area, which is home to important neutral monsters such as the dragon, Baron Nashor and the red and blue ward.

  • Here, 5-on-5 play in standard mode, where the goal is to destroy the enemy Nexus. Special features include various buffs and strategic zones such as the river region that separates the lanes.

  • Howling Abyss: The second main map in League of Legends is the Howling Abyss, which was specially developed for the “ARAM” (All Random All Mid) mode. There is only one lane here and the goal is to reach the enemy Nexus by engaging in concentrated team fights.

  • This is also a 5v5 (ARAM) game with the objective of destroying the enemy Nexus. This map has no healing zones outside of the base and random champion selection.

Alternative Maps and Special Modes

In addition to the main maps, League of Legends also features alternative maps that have been specially designed for certain game modes or events. These maps offer variety and a way to experience the game from different perspectives.

  • Twisted Treeline: Twisted Treeline was a smaller map with only two lanes and a jungle area. This mode was removed in 2019 but remains a nostalgic favorite of many players.

  • In 3v3, the goal was to destroy the enemy Nexus. What made this special was the faster gameplay due to the more compact map.

  • Event Maps: Event maps are special maps that are associated with limited-time game modes. Examples include “Odyssey: Extraction” or “Nexus Blitz”. These maps are often unusually designed and contain unique mechanics that break with the standard League of Legends playstyle.

  • Nexus Blitz: This is a chaotic map that offers quick matches and random events. Odyssey: Extraction: This is a PvE experience in which players compete in teams against computer-controlled opponents.
