Passengers have to be prepared for delays and flight cancellations during the strike on 17 February. We have summarised for you which cities and airlines are affected by the current airport strike
Airport strikes are taking place in these cities
As the trade union Verdi announced, a total of seven German airports are affected by the strikes.
- The airports affected are Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover. During this time, numerous flights of various airlines are affected by the work stoppages.
- The airports of Berlin, Düsseldorf and Nuremberg are not expected to be affected by strikes, but due to the other strikes, there may be cancellations and delays here as well. One of the reasons may be that planes cannot take off from the other airports and are then absent from the other airports for flights.
- If you had a flight scheduled from one of the airports that is on strike, you should do things like cancel or rebook from home and avoid showing up at the airport to avoid chaos and long waits.
These airlines and carriers are affected
The strikes at Germany’s seven airports are affecting numerous airlines and carriers.
- Affected airlines include Lufthansa, EasyJet, Condor, Ryanair, Iberia and British Airways. But all other airlines flying to one of the affected airports are also affected by the strike.
- Most airlines have already announced that there may be flight cancellations and delays. You should therefore check the status of your flight with your airline in advance. In many cases, you can rebook on a later flight or cancel your trip free of charge. In this case, you should contact your airline directly.
- The airlines affected have usually already taken measures to minimise the impact of the strikes. For example, flights have been brought forward to avoid delays, or additional staff have been hired to allow passengers to be processed more quickly.
- Lufthansa, for example, offers a “Good for Train” service. Here passengers can exchange their flight coupons for domestic flights for train tickets and thus avoid the strike.
