If your Siemens washing machine displays error E18, you don’t have to worry. The problem can usually be solved quite easily. You can find out what you can do here.

Siemens washing machine – this means error E 18

Modern washing machines are highly technical devices with numerous functions. It can happen that an error is displayed.

  • If the error message E 18 appears in the display, the appliance has detected a problem with the waste water drain.
  • The reason for the error may be a kinked drain hose.
  • It is also possible that the pump is clogged and therefore the washing machine does not pump out.
  • In any case, the problem can be fixed quickly and without a specialist.

How to fix the problem with error E18

First, check if the drain hose is kinked. If it is not, see if the hose may be clogged.

  • To do this, loosen the hose clamp on the siphon and pull off the drain hose. Place a bucket underneath to catch the remaining water.
  • Check whether the hose or the connection piece of the siphon may be blocked and remove the blockage if necessary. Reconnect the washing machine to the drain.
  • If it is not a kinked or blocked drain hose that is causing the error message, it may be the pump. To check the pump, open the maintenance door on the front of the washing machine.
  • Place a bowl underneath and remove the small drain hose from its holder behind the maintenance flap.
  • After you have removed the cap from the small hose, the water drains off. Caution: Depending on the set temperature, the water may be hot.
  • Once you have drained the water, unscrew the pump cover and clean both the pump cover and the pump housing.
  • Check also whether the pump impeller in the drain pump is turning. To do this, you can use the handle of a cooking spoon, for example.
  • Screw the pump cover back on tightly and close the maintenance flap. Now start the emptying or empty programme on the washing machine.
