Microwave: This is the typical power consumption

by Mike

Are you wondering whether the electricity consumption of a microwave is high or low? Contrary to what you might think, the microwave’s electricity consumption is not all that high. In fact, compared to other household appliances, the microwave performs quite well.

Microwave: This is how the power consumption looks

The electricity consumption of a microwave oven is lower than that of other household appliances. Short reheating or preparing a dish are therefore no problem.

  • On average, the microwave consumes between 600 and 900 watts. If you heat up something briefly, the appliance consumes about 0.2 kilowatt hours in the process; in an oven, it can cost you three times as much energy.
  • Depending on the appliance and the type of preparation, you will use more electricity. Compared to other household appliances, the microwave is still in the lower range.
  • In comparison, the kettle consumes an average of 2200 watts. An oven, dishwasher or cooker up to 3000 watts.
  • For example, if you use your microwave for 20 minutes a day, you use about 0.4 kilowatt hours. At a price of 30 cents per kilowatt hour, that makes an average of 12 cents a day that you spend on the microwave.
  • Tip: You can save extra electricity by using a microwave with energy-saving mode.
