In many guidebooks you can read that a streak-free cleaning of windows is hardly possible without a squeegee. How the cleaning also works without this tool, we show you
Cleaning windows without a squeegee – so it will still be streak-free
The squeegee is not the most important utensil when cleaning windows. What you use to clean the windows is much more important.
- What you absolutely need is warm water. Cold water will not clean windows.
- When choosing a cleaning agent, you don’t have to use store-bought glass cleaners. There are some home remedies that will clean windows just as streak-free.
- The classic is a squirt of dishwashing liquid in the cleaning water. Dishwashing liquid dissolves grease and cleans well. Vinegar is just as effective when cleaning windows.
- A dash of methylated spirit in warm water is also suitable.
Dry windows after cleaning
After thoroughly cleaning windows, drying them ensures that no streaks or streaks form. A squeegee is a handy utensil for this, but not absolutely necessary.
- Wring out the cloth you used to clean the windows thoroughly after cleaning to remove most of the water from the glass.
- This will not really dry the window. You can achieve this by rubbing the window with a dry, soft microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths are absorbent and absorb moisture residue.
- Cost-effective and easy to use is a product that ends up in the wastebasket every day: Newsprint. Crumple up some old paper and use it to rub the window dry.
- Only the paper from newspapers is suitable. The pages from magazines or even many advertising leaflets are coated so that they hardly absorb moisture. Since the paper is also quite hard, small scratches can occur on the pane in the worst case.
