Before setting up your Amazon Echo device, you should do some preparation. First, download the Amazon Alexa app for Android or iOS. If you’ve already done that, check for an update to the app. Install it if there is one. You should also connect your Echo device to the power supply. Make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- First, open the Alexa app on your smartphone and log in with your Amazon access data.
- Go to “More”. Tap the + symbol and select “Add device”.
- Now select “Amazon Echo”.
- Next, select “Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Pop and more”. Now follow the instructions for setting up your device.

Once you have set up Amazon Echo and linked it to the Alexa smart home service, you can use the tool for a variety of everyday applications.
- Music: Since your Echo device is also a speaker, you can use it to play music. To do so, add your desired streaming provider in the Alexa app via “Settings”, “Alexa Settings” and “Music and Podcasts”. Amazon’s own music service Amazon Music is already available by default. Alternatively, you can also listen to the radio on your Echo device. Alexa uses TuneIn by default for this purpose.
- Smart Home: If you use smart lamps, thermostats, plug sockets or other smart home accessories, you can also control these devices via your Amazon Echo device. To do this, add the devices via “Devices” in the Alexa app.
- Weather forecast: Once you have entered your location in the Alexa app, you can ask about the weather for the next few days. If you are planning a trip, you can also ask the service about the weather forecast in other cities and regions.
- Alarm clocks, reminders, notes and more: You can also use Alexa for a range of everyday tasks via your Echo device. For example, you can set an alarm clock, a timer, create notes or set reminders and appointments.
