Wireless mice are widely used because they save a lot of tangled cables. But what if the wireless mouse doesn’t work properly?

Even though wireless mice have become very reliable, they still bring small problems every now and then. However, you can quickly fix most of them yourself:

• First check whether the batteries used still have sufficient charge, or whether the mouse needs to be recharged if it is a rechargeable model. If the mouse is no longer supplied with power, annoying dropouts will occur.

• In addition, the range between the mouse and the receiver should not be too long. Orientate yourself here on the manufacturer’s recommendations. Mice with Bluetooth technology in particular can jerk after just a few metres.

• Other wireless devices such as baby monitors or radio telephones can cause interference if they are close to the mouse and transmit on a similar frequency. Especially if you use other wireless mice in the immediate vicinity, this can become a problem.

• Try switching off the corresponding devices and see if the mouse works properly again. Alternatively, you can change the radio frequency on some mice. You can usually find information on this in the operating instructions.
• Last but not least, you should switch the mouse and computer off and on again. Sometimes small errors in the system are to blame and can be fixed this way.

• If this does not solve the problem, contact the manufacturer or seller of your wireless mouse. There is probably a hardware defect that you cannot easily solve yourself.

Nothing helps: Reinstall the wireless mouse

If this still does not help, the last thing to do is to reinstall the mouse on the PC:

• To do this, open the Windows Device Manager, search for “Mice and other pointing devices” and right-click on the mouse. Then go to “Uninstall”.
• Then disconnect the receiver from the PC and reconnect it to initiate a fresh installation of the drivers.

• If this does not work either, contact the manufacturer or seller of your wireless mouse. There is probably a hardware defect that you cannot easily solve yourself.
