Sleep analysis with the Galaxy Watch 5 – the smartphone offers these functions

The Galaxy Watch 5 not only accompanies you during the day. At night, the smartphone also does a sleep analysis, provided you want it to. The next morning, you can get right back to work. The watch not only monitors your fitness training with the activity tracker, it also keeps you up to date on your state of health with the pulse and heart rate monitor, the BIA analysis, an ECG and blood pressure measurement and the measurement of oxygen saturation. Last but not least, the Galaxy Watch 5 also measures your stress level.

  • The Galaxy Watch 5’s sleep analysis determines how long the different sleep stages last for you. A distinction is made between four sleep stages: light sleep, deep sleep, wakefulness and REM sleep. REM sleep is characterised by rapid eye movements.
  • The fitness wristwatch also registers if and when you snore or talk in your sleep. You can activate this function with the Samsung Health app, but it is switched off by default.
  • If you want the sleep data to be recorded as well, however, you must leave your smartphone switched on next to you during the night.
  • With around a week’s worth of data collected, the Galaxy Watch 5 will then create your personal profile. Your sleep type is determined and then assigned to one of eight deep sleep symbols.
  • Using the data collected, the watch makes an analysis and then provides you with recommendations on how to optimise your sleep. In addition to the sleep index, the Galaxy 5 Watch also determines your calorie consumption and your time when you fall asleep and wake up.
  • However, if you suffer from serious sleep disorders, you should consult a doctor to get to the bottom of the problem. Sleep disorders can hide serious health problems.
