If the screen of your PC or laptop is suddenly shifted or partially cut off, this can have various reasons. In this practical tip, you will find out how to eliminate the problem.
Screen shifted or cut off: Modify the resolution on the monitor
Sometimes new drivers or programmes change the screen resolution, sometimes you get to some buttons unnoticed and suddenly the whole picture has shifted. With PCs, you usually have two options to get a “proper” picture on the monitor again.
- You can set up the resolution in the operating system accordingly, or you can set up the picture correctly on the monitor again.
- Your monitor has an auto-calibration function called “Autoadjust”, for example. If you activate this function, the monitor will search for the correct settings itself.
-
You can also call up the on-screen menu and fine-tune the settings yourself. You can find out exactly where you need to make the settings on your monitor in the respective help menu.
- Open the Control Panel.
- In the “Display” section you will find the item “Scaling and Arrangement”. The system automatically detects the appropriate setting and marks it with the addition “(recommended)”.
Setting the screen resolution in the operating system
Alternatively – or for the notebook the only option – you can also reset the resolution in the operating system.
-
Under Windows 7, the option is located under “Appearance and Personalisation”. Select the option “Adjust screen resolution”.
- Your monitor has an auto-calibration function called “Autoadjust”, for example. If you activate this function, the monitor will search for the correct settings itself.
- You might also want to take this opportunity to download the latest driver for your graphics card.
