Repairing a Switch controller can be very tedious. First of all, the cause of the defect must be found and those who are less technically gifted quickly feel overwhelmed. Here you will find tips and tricks for repairing minor defects on your own.
Repairing a Switch Controller: Getting Started
A Nintendo Switch controller can break for a variety of reasons, whether it’s wear and tear or accidents like falling down or water damage. In many cases, you can easily repair the controller yourself with small and quick actions.
- First, the cause of the defect must be found. These are sometimes not even visible externally, but can massively restrict the function of the controller.
- Clean the controller. Sometimes dirt or dust can get stuck in the buttons or joystick of the controller and cause them to stop working properly. Using compressed air or a soft cloth, it is sometimes possible to remove dust and dirt that affects the contacts.
- The Switch controller is wireless, so you should make sure it is properly connected to the Switch console. Make sure the connection is strong enough and that there are no other electronic devices nearby that could potentially cause interference.
- If the joystick stops working properly, it may simply need to be recalibrated. In that case, you can try doing the joystick calibration in the Switch console settings to fix the problem.
Repair Switch Controller: Open and reinstall
If all other solutions fail, it may be that some part of the controller is damaged and needs to be replaced. However, repairing it on your own should only be done if you have the necessary skills and the right tools to open the controller and install the replacement part.
- Before starting the repair, make sure that all necessary tools and spare parts are at hand. This will require a Phillips screwdriver, plastic opening tool, tweezers and possibly a spare parts kit depending on which part of the controller is to be repaired.
- One by one, unscrew all the screws on the back of the controller to open the case. Care should be taken to keep the screws in a safe place so that they can be fully replaced later.
- Use tweezers to carefully loosen the cable connections that connect the board to the housing. The cables must not be damaged under any circumstances.
- When the defective part of the controller has been identified, it is carefully removed from the housing. It is best to use a plastic opening tool to pull the part out without damaging the housing.
- When installing the replacement part, carefully insert it into the appropriate position in the housing. When the installation is completed, the spare part should be securely fastened.
- Finally, the circuit board is replaced and the cable connections restored. As in the previous step, all parts should be firmly and securely fastened.]
- Test the controller for all functions to make sure it is working properly.
