Repair iPhone: Remove dust on camera lens

If dust has accumulated on or under your iPhone camera lens, you will need to perform a small repair to rectify the situation. Even if you “only” remove the dust on the camera lens, there are a few small things you should keep in mind. Otherwise, the cleaning may turn into a repair of your iPhone.

Removing dust from the outside of the iPhone camera lens

If the dust is found outside the iPhone on the camera lens, you can sort out the problem relatively quickly.

• However, you must exercise a certain amount of caution when removing the dust. Otherwise you will end up with no more dust, but with unsightly scratches on the lens. Therefore, first remove the coarse dirt carefully with a soft brush.
• Once the iPhone’s camera lens is completely free of dust particles, carry out the fine work. Use a microfibre cloth to clean the camera lens of the iPhone. It is usually helpful to place the lint-free cloth over a cotton swab.
• It is usually sufficient to clean the camera lens of the iPhone with warm water after brushing off the dust. If you discover a lot of grease stains on the lens, for example from fingerprints, add a little washing-up liquid to the water.

Clean lens inside iPhone

If the dust has gotten under the camera lens, the effort to remove it is considerably greater and not easy to accomplish. In case of doubt and if the warranty is still valid, it is better to contact the nearest app store. Otherwise you could cause major damage to your iPhone.

• To remove the dust below the lens, you need to open the iPhone. To do this, you will need some iPhone tool utensils.

• Using the fine screwdriver, first loosen the screws of the iPhone cover.

• Finally, open the iPhone by carefully sliding a thin piece of plastic between the front and the back. You also attach a suction cup to the back of the iPhone.

• Using the piece of plastic, gently separate the two halves and pull up the back of the iPhone at the same time using the suction cup.

• Both the back and front camera lenses are once again protected by covers. These are in turn fastened with screws, which you must first loosen carefully before you can open the camera lens covers. It is best to store the screws in a container so that they do not get lost. Remove the covers with lever pins.
• After you have carefully removed the covers, you can also clean the inside of the camera lenses. The easiest way to remove dust from the camera lenses of the iPhone is to use a lens pen.
• Note: Since opening the iPhone always involves risks, you should really only clean the camera lenses from the inside if there is dust on them.
