If you want to buy a new projector, you should first calculate the correct distance to your projection surface. We will show you how to do this in this guide.
Beamer: Calculating the distance and other factors
When buying a projector, you should include other factors in your decision-making besides the correct distance.
- As a general rule, a projector screen should be half as wide as the viewer is sitting away from it. For example, if your sofa is 4 metres from the screen, the screen should be about 2 metres wide.
- Most manufacturers indicate the correct distance in the operating instructions. If you do not have them to hand, we will show you in the next paragraph how to calculate the distance yourself.
Calculate the correct distance for the beamer
- Open Visunext’s website and select the manufacturer and model of your projector below
- Know the size of the screen, go to the “Size” tab at the bottom. There, choose between the 16:9, 16:10 and 4:3 format and enter the width of your canvas.
- Confirm your entry with the Enter key and check the minimum and maximum distances on the right. You can set these using the zoom of the beamer.
- If you only know the distance from the projector to the screen, this is also no problem. Switch to the “Distance” tab below and enter the distance between the lens and the screen.
