A power supply reset can be helpful if you need to tame crazy components in your PC
Power supply reset – how it works
Since power supply units are in continuous operation, so to speak, incorrect voltage states can build up in the capacitors on the mainboard, causing the computer to appear to be acting up. To discharge the capacitors completely, follow these instructions:
- Close all programs and switch off the computer
- Set the toggle switch on the power supply unit to “Off”.
- If there is no switch, unplug the power cable.
- Once this has been done, it is best to wait a few minutes. The capacitors will discharge during this time. Residual voltages in the power supply unit and on the mainboard are discharged
- Now restore the power supply and switch on the computer. Most components should now work again without any problems
