PlayStation 3: Retrofit 3D function

Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3-) is more than just a console – now it comes with 3D, another function that you can upgrade yourself. We’ll show you how to do it.

1. Upgrade PlayStation 3 to 3D – the preparation

First you need to update the operating software:

  • To update the firmware, go to “Settings” in the menu and then to “System Update”.
  • Now click on “Update via Internet”.
  • After downloading and installing, the PS3 will automatically reboot – done!

2. Make 3D settings on the PS3

  • To do this, go to the “Settings” submenu again and there to the “Display Settings” item.
  • Now select “Automatic” as the setting method and confirm the following prompt with “Yes “

3. adjust PS3 screen for 3D

  • Now set the size of your TV in inches – by default this is set to 50 inches.
  • Using the directional pad on the left of the PS3 controller, you can now enter the actual display size and finally confirm the selection with the “x “
  • Now the PlayStation 3 finally shows you your settings in an overview – if everything has worked, the two points “720p (3D)” and “1,080p (3D)” should appear relatively far down. This completes the setup of the PS3 for 3D films
