How old is my laptop? How to find out

by Johannes

How old is my laptop? This is an interesting question, especially if you have bought a second-hand computer. We’ll show you two methods you can use to quickly find out the age of your laptop

Read the laptop’s date of manufacture from stickers

  • The easiest way to find out the age of a laptop is to look at the labels on the bottom of the device. The date of manufacture is printed there in many cases.
  • The labels are designed differently depending on the manufacturer and model. You will usually find the year and month of manufacture below the model number.

Find out the installation date of the operating system in Windows

If you have not installed a different operating system version on your laptop, you can also determine the age internally using the software. On a Windows computer, proceed as follows:

  • Press the key combination [Win]+[R].
  • Type “cmd” in the text field and press “OK” to open the command prompt.
  • Type “systeminfo” here and press [Enter]. The computer will then retrieve a lot of information about your system.
  • When all results are listed, search for “Original installation date”.
  • For newer Windows versions, however, this is the date of the last major update. This information may only be correct for older Windows versions.
