If you have forgotten the password of your FritzBox, you may be able to read it out. Unfortunately, this is not possible in many cases.
Read out the FritzBox password – is that possible?
For security reasons, you cannot read out the password of your FritzBox directly. However, this does not automatically mean that you have to reset it to the factory settings if you have forgotten the access data.
- If you log in to your FritzBox with a web browser, it may already have saved the password in a database. In this case, you can read out the password in Firefox, Chrome or Edge.
- Check whether you are still logged into your FritzBox with another device such as a laptop. To do this, call up the address http://fritz.box/ in the browser. If you gain access to the user interface, you can change the password without having to enter it again.
- If you are logged into the FritzBox, change the password by clicking on the three dots in the top right of the user interface, selecting Change Password and then assigning a new Fritzbox password.
- If you have used the MyFritz app on your smartphone or tablet in the past, it may have saved your access data. If so, your mobile device may accept your fingerprint or other biometric verification method instead of the forgotten password.
- If you have never changed the password of your FritzBox, it probably still uses the access data issued by the manufacturer. You can usually find these on a sticker on the back or bottom of the device. You may also find the required information in the manual or on the cover of the installation medium.
- If you still cannot access your FRITZ!Box, you will have to reset it to the factory settings.
