If the fingerprint sensor of your smartphone no longer works, this can have several causes. We will show you the best way to proceed in this practical tip.
Fingerprint sensor does not respond: Dirt is often the cause
Dirt is probably the most common reason why the fingerprint scanner no longer works. The following tips will help you clean it:
- First use a piece of tape to remove coarse dirt from the fingerprint scanner. Stick a piece on and press it onto the entire surface of the scanner. Then carefully peel off the tape again.
- Take a piece of kitchen paper and moisten it with a few drops of water. Wipe thoroughly over the fingerprint scanner.
- If you can still see residue, use a few drops of disinfectant on a microfibre cloth or kitchen paper and wipe over the scanner. This should now remove even the most stubborn stains after thorough wiping.
- Afterwards, make sure that both your finger and the scanner are dry.
Fingerprint not recognisable: check your finger
Problems with fingerprint scanners can also be due to your fingers. Cuts, burns, burns or other changes to your fingers make it harder to read your fingerprint.
- Add a new fingerprint to the system, or use another finger that is already stored.
- As soon as you set up the new fingerprint, you will notice whether the scanner is still working or not. If it recognises the touch and the finger is scanned when touched, then it is working and it is the other finger.
Fingerprint sensor defective: Test the hardware
With various apps you can test on Android devices whether the hardware of your smartphone is still working.
- Download the app Test your Android from the Google Play Store.
- Start the app and select “Fingerprint” from the menu.
- Place your finger on the scanner. If the finger is recognised, this is confirmed. If a finger is recognised but has not been stored, the message “Not recognised” is displayed. In both cases, this means that the scanner is still working.
- If “Put your finger on the sensor” is still displayed after you put your finger on the sensor, it is probably a hardware fault.
- In this case, you should have your device checked and repaired by a specialist.
Fingerprint sensor not responding: How to fix software errors
In some cases, a bug in the operating system can also cause the fingerprint scanner not to work properly.
- Restart your device to fix possible errors.
- Install the latest update on your device.
- If you have updated recently, you can try to restore the old version. Or you can wait for the manufacturer to release a new update that can fix the problem.
- You can also try to reset the system. However, you should make a backup before doing so, otherwise all your data will be deleted automatically.
