If you want to connect an Xbox controller to your PS5, there are two methods available to you: PS Remote Play and controller adapter.
Connect Xbox controller to PS5: Two ways
The PS5 does not natively support Xbox controllers. This means you have to use one of the following methods to connect the non-console gamepads:
- The simplest method is to use a USB adapter. These are plugged into the PS5 and connect the Xbox controller to the console. Adapters are available wireless or wired
- After the connection has been established, the Xbox controller should be displayed directly in the PS5 menu. The only problem with this variant is that many adapters only allow you to use the PS5 menu and play PS4 titles.
- Sony has installed a gamepad lock for PS5 games, which should make it impossible to use non-console controllers via adapters. However, there are models that are supposed to bypass this lock, which you will have to test out
- Alternatively, you can use PS Remote Play to connect an Xbox controller to your PS5. To do this, download the app for iOS or Android and set it up. Activate the Remote Play function in the system settings of your console
- Then start Remote Play on your smartphone or tablet and go to the settings. There you will find the option for background streaming, which you activate
- Now you need to connect the Xbox controller to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. It should then be possible to control the PS5 via the Xbox controller. With this method, however, it may also happen that the gamepad is not accepted by the console
- Attention: The PS Remote Play method may cause severe connection problems if you are using a weak network. Furthermore, some PS functions are not available via Xbox controllers, such as the touchpad.
