To enjoy full sound, you can connect your Sonos speaker to your TV. To do this, you need an app that you can download for free.
Connect Sonos to your TV: step-by-step guide for perfect sound
To connect your TV to the Sonos speaker, you first need the Sonos app.
- The setup is done via the Sonos app. The app can be downloaded for free from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. It guides the user through the setup process, including connecting to the TV.
- If you have already attached speakers to your TV, remove them first. Then connect the TV to the Sonos speaker. In most cases, the connection between Sonos speakers and the TV is via HDMI, only rarely via a jack plug or RCA. Modern Sonos soundbars such as Arc, Beam and Ray connect directly to the TV via an HDMI cable.

- Then set up the TV as a new component on the Sonos app. Use “Trueplay” to turn your TV into a home theater. Trueplay is a separate sound optimization feature and is not directly connected to the TV setup.
- After setting up the TV on the Sonos app, select “Audio Options” in the TV settings. You will need to turn off the TV’s internal speaker so that you can enjoy full Sonos sound in the future. Disabling the TV’s internal speakers is often done automatically when using an HDMI-ARC or eARC connection.
- In any case, you also need to set up the Sonos speaker on your TV. The exact steps may vary depending on the Sonos model and TV set, so you should follow the instructions in the app.
Connection not working: Here’s what to do
If you’re having trouble connecting your Sonos system to your TV, here are some things you can try to get them connected:
- Check HDMI-ARC connection: Make sure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both devices. Use the HDMI port labeled “ARC” on the TV. If the problem persists, try a different HDMI cable.
- Optimize CEC settings: Enable CEC settings in your TV settings. Identify interfering HDMI devices by disconnecting and reconnecting them one at a time from the TV. Disable CEC on the interfering HDMI device or use an HDMI cable without CEC functionality
- Adjust the audio settings: Select “Audio Options” in the TV settings. Make sure that the sound is coming from the Sonos system.
- Further troubleshooting steps: Check that the optical cable (if used) is connected correctly. Restart the TV and external source devices. If you are having problems with the remote, check the IR sensor for obstructions and replace the batteries if necessary.
