YouTube Music is not an Alexa-compatible service, but you can still connect the smart voice assistant to the platform to listen to music.
How to connect Alexa with YouTube Music
Amazon and YouTube owner Google compete in many areas. That’s why there is no official Alexa skill for using YouTube or YouTube Music. However, a developer has made an unofficial skill available on Github that doesn’t let you play videos, but does let you play music from YouTube Music on your Amazon voice assistant.
- Download the skill YTAudio from GitHub and save it to your smartphone under the name “YouTube audio”.
- Open the Alexa app on your smartphone and select the new skill “YouTube audio” in the menu in the “Skills” section and tap on “Activate”.
- Use the command “Alexa, Alexa, ask YouTube audio to search for [music track].” to play your desired music. Unfortunately, the skill only works in English.
- You can get by without a skill at all if you use your Amazon Echo as a speaker and connect the device on which you play YouTube Music to Alexa via Bluetooth.
