You can replace the battery on the Apple Watch if necessary, for example if it discharges very quickly. It only takes a few simple steps to do this.
Apple Watch: Replacing the battery – here’s how
You should only repair your Apple Watch if you know what you are doing and have a steady hand. For the procedure, you will need the Apple repair kit and a heat gun, or hair dryer.
- The first step is to turn off the Apple Watch completely.
- Use the heat gun to slightly heat the display so that the adhesive comes off.
- Use the suction cup from the repair kit to remove the display. Alternatively, use the tweezers with the spatula end to carefully prise it off. However, there is a risk of breakage.
- Now carefully lift the battery with a spatula. Note, however, that it is usually wired and these cables must be disconnected before removal.
- In some devices, the battery is also attached with small screws, you loosen these with the respective bits in the repair kit.
- If the battery is detached, connect the new battery properly and place it carefully in the housing.
- Finally, place the display back on top and gently press against it so that it is firmly connected to the case again.
What you need to know when replacing the battery
There are a lot of things that can go wrong when swapping batteries and you should be educated about them.
- As already mentioned, there is a high risk of the display breaking when levering it out, for example. For this reason, extreme caution must be exercised.
- In addition, the inner workings of the Apple Watch can be damaged if you penetrate too deeply with the tools.
- In addition, if you repair it yourself, you risk voiding the warranty.
- Accordingly, you are better off considering having the unit replaced by the manufacturer or taking it to a professional for repair.
